Family Learning

In our school we provide family learning activities to allow children to practice and reinforce skills in literacy and numeracy as well as working in partnership with parents to support the children’s overall development. Family learning grids are sent home via Seesaw on a fortnightly basis and families can engage in tasks when it suits other home commitments. We do, however, encourage some daily input with phonics and reading practise with the younger children. A curriculum overview, distributed at the beginning of each term, provides information about the classwork to be covered across the eight curricular areas.

The school has produced a “Homework Language Booklet” for non-Gaelic speaking parents at the early stages in particular, to help them “read” the Gaelic instructions for homework. Parents are also encouraged to buy a Gaelic-English dictionary to support homework too. There are also many free Gaelic language classes available throughout the city to help parents learn Gaelic and support their children.

Parents of Primary One children have an opportunity to attend classes delivered by school staff with a focus on helping to support Gaelic learning in the home.
