History

History contributes to each of the Four Capacities in Curriculum for Excellence and gives pupils a sense of belonging and understanding of their place in society. Pupils examine past and present evidence collaboratively leading to balanced conclusions. They learn the skill of evaluating the quality and relevance of sources in National 5 and this encourages independent research along with critical thinking. This emphasis on skills leads to synthesis in the Higher and a greater openness to other perspectives. Consequently, History skills are transferred effectively in the daily lives of pupils and outside in their life of work.
